About WimTools
Hey, I'm Wim.
I'm a software developer and DevOps engineer based in the UK. I've spent years building CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and automation for teams of all sizes. Recently I started building small Mac utilities in my spare time, on evenings and weekends, to fix things that annoyed me, and it turns out other people had the same annoyances.
Why WimTools exists
It started with frustration. I was paying monthly for a voice dictation app that ran on my own hardware, but still sending my voice to someone else's cloud. That didn't make sense to me. So I built WimFlow: private, on-device, one-time purchase, not yet another subscription to the ever-growing list of subs.
Then I got fed up trying to find a browser tab amongst 63 tabs across two different browsers. And I got fed up switching between Finder windows with the mouse like it's 2005. So I built WimTab.
WimDev came from way too frequently Googling or asking Claude the same commands: flush DNS, kill a port. I put them all in the menu bar and stopped Googling. Yes, I could have written a bash script, but felt WimDev could be built to do other useful things and evolve over time.
How I build
WimTools is a one-person operation. I design, build, test, and support every app myself. I don't even have an account system. You buy it, you own it.
Despite decades of software development experience, I use Claude heavily throughout my workflow, from brainstorming architecture to writing code to debugging tricky edge cases. It's genuinely made me must faster and I'm not embarrassed to say so.
I think software should be:
- Focused: do few things properly rather than twenty things badly
- Honest: no dodgy shenanigans, no surprise subscriptions, no "free" tiers that nag you into paying
- Yours: one-time purchase means it's your tool, on your machine (up to 3 actually!), forever
What I use
Everything is built with Swift and SwiftUI, targeting native macOS performance. Every app is signed and notarised by Apple. I use these tools daily in my own work. They're not side projects I shipped and forgot about. If something breaks, I notice because it breaks my workflow too.
